Virginia is the oldest American colony, beginning in Jamestown in 1607. From the Charlottesville and Shenandoah Valley, to Colonial Williamsburg to its beach resorts, Virginia is a true gem. The state is rich in history and the northern part is a suburban enclave for Washington DC. If it is Civil War sites that you are looking for, the Richmond and Tidewater area have many. A good place to start is the Historic Triangle area near Fredericksburg. In the western part of the state is the beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway which heads into North Carolina. A very scenic route, especially in the fall.

Mount Vernon, set on a bluff overlooking the Potomac River is where you will find George Washington’s five-hundred acre country estate. It has been renovated and features, all the furnishings, and the living accommodations from that era including slaves quarters with displays of old weapons. Colonial Williamsburg is an essencial tourist experience with its cobbled stone streets and old village charm. For the beach lover, Virginia Beach has long sandy beaches, boardwalks, and old motels and curio shops. Truly a favorite for many in the state for summer fun and relaxation.

Tip of the Day

Be Organized

It is a good idea to pack one room at a time, labeling each box with the room name (Kitchen, Bathroom, etc.) and a number (Kitchen - #1). As you complete packing each box go to your notebook, record the room name and the box number and list the contents of the box. If you take a little extra time to do this while you are packing each box, being as specific as you can, it will make unpacking at your new home that much easier. Also, if a box goes missing during the move you will be able to identify the missing items immediately by referring to your inventory list
