This Great Plains state is full of open spaces, with rich rolling green hills in the east and a favorite tourist destination for many people. Home of the Badlands, Black Hills and Mount Rushmore it is full of heritage of the old west. It was also a stomping ground for Wild Bill Hickok and General Custer and Crazy Horse. Around Mount Rushmore there is more to see than the famous presidents, there are plenty of hiking trails, mountain lakes and steams.

For the traveler and the person looking for adventure, there is much to see here. Each August is the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, Custer State Park, the Crazy Horse Memorial, Hot Springs and Wind Cave National Park. Here are many huge caves, some being the largest in the country. There are many tours given by rangers. Call ahead for reservations, and get ready to crawl around some very small tunnels. If cave exploring is not your thing, driving through the park is spectacular which is a true Black Hills experience. Its native grass and prairies are home to many wild animals, including bison and prairie dogs.

Tip of the Day

Be Organized

It is a good idea to pack one room at a time, labeling each box with the room name (Kitchen, Bathroom, etc.) and a number (Kitchen - #1). As you complete packing each box go to your notebook, record the room name and the box number and list the contents of the box. If you take a little extra time to do this while you are packing each box, being as specific as you can, it will make unpacking at your new home that much easier. Also, if a box goes missing during the move you will be able to identify the missing items immediately by referring to your inventory list
