Most people that live out west are in counties bigger than this state. It is the smallest state and is nestled just south of Massachusetts and east of Connecticut. This state, though tiny, has much going for it. It was the first state to enact an anti slavery law and the first to declare its Independence from Britain. A prime tourist location, Rhode Island has many national landmarks and over four hundred miles of coastline.

Its two main destinations are Providence and Newport. Providence is the home of Brown University and has a large Italian community around Federal Hill. On the shores of Narragansett Bay, it has a rich history in whaling and fishing. Newport  has been called “ America’s First Resort”, and with its magnificent mansions and picturesque scenery, makes it a destination stop for many people. Very quaint and peaceful, it offers some of the most spectacular view of the ocean one can find.
