Like its neighboring state to the south, North Dakota has a fertile east and is more thickly settled than in the west where livestock grazing is more predominant. The state is charming, with its endless horizons, charm and grain silos. Named after German Chancellor Otto von Bismark, Bismark had a very lawless past and is reflected in the area named “Murders Gulch”.

Western North Dakota is home of the Badlands and Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Full of all types of wildlife it is a mix of desert, wood and mountains. Be sure to visit the Painted Canyon with its sedimentary rocks carved out for millions of years by hard rains and the erosive Little Missouri River. Medora on the southern end of the park is as hamlet for family fun with its theme parks and other attractions.
