Nebraska

State Flower
Goldenrod

During the 1870s and 1880s Nebraska had to rely on the railroads to populate the state-it didn’t have navigable rivers. This resulted in such a huge network that virtually every farmer is with in a day’s cattle drive of the nearest stop. Because of this, the buffalo country of the Sioux and Pawnee were transformed into high yielding farm country. Thus, Nebraska is tops in beef production and great steaks.

And where should one go to find these great steaks? Well for a start, Nebraska’s largest city of Omaha  wouldn’t be a bad place to start. Here also are huge stockyards, good bars, cafes  along  cobbled stone streets of downtown. Omaha is where ranchers would sell there herds, a hub of the west that was much closer than distant Chicago.

One finds the eastern part of the state as more hilly than the west. The western part is flat windmill country with many landmarks. As you travel west, you pretty much parallel the Platte river as it winds laterally across the state. Be sure to visit the many Oregon Trail landmarks and Chimney Rocks National Monument.

Tip of the Day

Be Organized

It is a good idea to pack one room at a time, labeling each box with the room name (Kitchen, Bathroom, etc.) and a number (Kitchen - #1). As you complete packing each box go to your notebook, record the room name and the box number and list the contents of the box. If you take a little extra time to do this while you are packing each box, being as specific as you can, it will make unpacking at your new home that much easier. Also, if a box goes missing during the move you will be able to identify the missing items immediately by referring to your inventory list
