The state of over one thousand lakes is called that because ninety-percent of the population live within 15 miles of a body of water. French explorers came in the sixteenth century encountered a state rich in prairies, dense forest and many waterways and lakes. Fur trading and lumbering flourished and the state was later settled by people from all parts of Europe. To the north is the city of Duluth and a wonderful region of lakes, forest and camping. Also there is Voyageurs National Park, unlike any other, because they say the best way to see it is by boat.

The Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul and its environs is where the majority of the population lives. A bustling metropolis it is host to the largest mall in America, the Mall of America, The Mississippi Mile, the Walker Art Center and Guthrie Theater. The Mall of America opened in 1992 and has over five hundred stores, is four stories tall  and is visited by over 42 million people every year. Be sure to check out the Winter Carnival, a gala of frosty ice sculptures, during the months of late January to early February.

Tip of the Day

Be Organized

It is a good idea to pack one room at a time, labeling each box with the room name (Kitchen, Bathroom, etc.) and a number (Kitchen - #1). As you complete packing each box go to your notebook, record the room name and the box number and list the contents of the box. If you take a little extra time to do this while you are packing each box, being as specific as you can, it will make unpacking at your new home that much easier. Also, if a box goes missing during the move you will be able to identify the missing items immediately by referring to your inventory list
