Known for sports racing and high school basketball, Indiana, even though a Midwestern state, bears the influence of the easy going south. Rapid industrialization in the northwest corner of the state has made it a powerhouse in the region. On the shores of Lake Michigan, and nearby in the town of Elkhart is one of the largest Amish settlements in the country.

Indianapolis is in the center of the state and home of the Indianapolis 500 car race every May. Recently the city built a new sports complex, the Conseco Fieldhouse downtown. The city is the host of many fine restaurants, museums and the Lockerbie Square Historic District lined with small wooden cottages on a cobblestone streets painted in bright yellows, pinks and blues. Traveling to the southern part of the state one finds rolling hills and beautiful colored trees in the fall, a total contrast from the mostly flat terrain of the rest of the state.
