On the shores of Lake Michigan is the Windy City of Chicago. Seventy five percent of the state’s population lives within commuting distance of the city. Home to world famous jazz, fine restaurants, great sports teams and an impressive skyline, Chicago is a city buzzing with excitement. Founded in 1800, Chicago burned to the ground in 1871. This did not stop the tough people of this great city from rebuilding it and growing it. Its population would double in every  decade and by 1900 it had a population of over two million. Must see places in Chicago are Wrigley Field, the Art Institute of Chicago and The Loop. It really is a city that has it all.

Further to the south is the capital of Springfield. Two hundred miles away it is in the heart of the corn belt and the home of Abraham Lincoln. In the farm belt area of the state, especially if one takes a drive on the historic Route 66, are many old time diners and motels from the past. If you are traveling west toward Iowa, be sure to visit the city of Galena. It is considered one of the most picturesque river towns in America and the home of Ulysses S. Grant.
