The largest of the southern states, Georgia is home to the bright lights and bustling city of Atlanta. But one needs not to go far to see a totally different type of lifestyle-that of the rural south. Georgia does have a small stretch of beaches and small islands(unknown to most people) that offer peace and tranquility.

Just north of Atlanta lies the Appalachian foothills with its many state parks and breathtaking fall colors of red and gold. To the East  of Atlanta is the old city of Savannah. This city has almost every type of architecture in its historic district lined with cobblestone streets. Founded in 1733 it was the first settlement of the British Colony of Georgia. Savannah has many great restaurants, but for fine dining and more upscale establishments it is better to drift away from the waterfront area and head downtown. Of course one can find almost anything one likes in Atlanta and many people use it as a base area for visiting the many other attractions in the state because of its central location. Also nearby to Atlanta is Augusta, the hope of the Masters Golf Tournament.
